Birthstone Book Tag

I found the birthstone book tag on Spines and Covers on this blog post. The original book tag was created by Jay G.

1. January (GARNET): Associated with warding off negative forces and dark energies – Name a book with the darkest/evilest character you can think of.

Caleb, The Captive Series by Erica Stevens

He may not be the most evil but Caleb, Braith’s brother, gives me the absolute chills (just like his father).

2. February (AMETHYST): Purple is associated with royalty – Name a book with regal qualities… You can base this off of characters or choose the King of all books.

The Selection Series by Kiera Cass

The book has royal qualities. America is trying to win the heart of Maxon, the prince, afterall.

3. March (AQUAMARINE): Washed out – Name a ‘wishy washy’ character, a character who is not strong or a follower.

Aria, Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi or Prince Casimir, Ruined by Amy Tintera

In the beginning, both characters are weak. Aria is lost in a new world and Prince Casimir bows to his father’s demands.

4. April (DIAMOND): A diamond in the rough – Name a book that you loved but is not well known.

Obscure but amazing.

5. May (EMERALD): Said to balance energy – Name two characters who balance each other well.

Lada and Radu, And I Darken by Kiersten White

This sister and brother pair are exact opposites. They compliment one another so well I can hardly put it into words.

6. June (PEARL): Associated with loyalty – Name a character who is loyal to the end.

Gene Forrester, A Separate Peace by John Knowles

His dedication and loyalty to Phineas is absolute. He is a follower and Finny is the leader. {Could also double for March (AQUAMARINE) and May (EMERALD)}

7. July (RUBY): Blood red – Name a book that made your blood boil, one that made you angry.

Room made me angry sad due to the treatment and horrible circumstances. The new addition to the plot of Allegiant, the inaccurate movie adaption, and the ending all made me mad angry (as in, I may have actually thrown the book and complained about the movie).

8. August (PERIDOT): Pale green (it pales in comparison to other gems) – Name a supporting character who you like better than the main character.

Cinna, The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins

I completely agree with #1 in Jamie’s Top Ten Supporting Characters.

9. September (SAPPHIRE): Blue like the ocean which is calming – Name a book that had a calming affect on you.

Adult coloring books

A new and cliché trend in 2016.

10. October (OPAL): Iridescent – Name an iridescent book, this can be a book with a beautiful cover (Shiny? Lots of colour?) or you can base it off of a character (Quirky? Colourful?).

The Newsoul Series by Jodi Meadows

The first book that popped into my head was Incarnate.

11. November (TOPAZ): Associated with resilience – Name a book with a character who rises to the top in a time of adversity.

Wonder by R. J. Palacio

I have not personally read this book, but it rates the highest in this GoodReads list.

12. December (BLUE ZIRCON): Associated with friendship – Name a book with a friendship you want to be apart of.

The Gray Wolves Series by Quinn Loftis.

The three main female characters (Jacqueline aka. Jacque, Jennifer aka. Jen, and Sally) have one of the best friendships I have ever read. They know each other so well, banter playfully, and always have each other’s back.

I tag you! Any book blogger, avid reader, or Pokémon player is welcome to complete the birthstone book tag. Feel free to comment, I would love to take a look at your picks in your post.
