YA Book to Movie Adaptions

Warning: book and movie spoilers!

So, I just discovered gifs on my blog. And I really wanted to use them. So here is my book to movie post: the yay, the nay, and the inbetween. All of these opinions are my own. Don’t sue me. I don’t hate any of these movies or books. From the perspective of a book nerd, the movie interpretations that alter the original plot slightly anger me. My conclusion, which is a no-brainer, the books are always better.

I was quite happy with how they handled this movie. Both the book and the movie made me cry uncontrollably.

So much love for this franchise! I will never tire of Harry Potter.

Like, ever.

And eternity.

I read the Twilight books before the movie franchise. I was very excited for the movies and enjoyed the book to movie adaptions. I still enjoy the series but since it is now EVERYWHERE, I have lost some of my interest.

Book to movie to TV show. This is one of the book series that inspired by love for reading. I liked the movie, but it didn’t go over well enough for a sequel. Then it released on FreeForm as Shadowhunters. The TV show went off great and they are currently planning/filming season 2. Some of the acting was rudimentary, but I loved it all the same. They are making some changes to keep the series fresh and exciting, but nothing too drastic. The Alec + Magnus kissing scene at the wedding gave me so many FEELS!

Overall, I love it. I’m not sure if they did Prim’s death justice though, since I was totally expecting to cry and I didn’t.

As with most movies, plot and scene changes were inevitable. However, I thought this movie was good and I enjoyed the book also.

I feel that this movie adaption went slowly downhill. I was happy about most things,however I have three big grievances.

1.  Peter wasn’t as brutal. In the book, he stabs Edward in the eye. I understand this would have been too graphic for a PG-13 movie, but they could have eluded to it because Peter loses some of his ferocity (he is actually humorous).

2. They did not follow the third book. I have not read Allegiant in a while, but I know that the movie is not a direct match. My biggest peeve, THEY DIDN’T KEEP THE ENDING. As a reader, I was angry at the third book. I’m pretty sure I threw my copy when I finished it. But I was even more upset at the movie. Tris was SUPPOSED TO DIE!

3. Lastly, the finale will skip movie theaters and be released as a TV movie with a spinoff series. I found this exclusive on twitter from this Variety article. I don’t really know how I feel about this. But maybe they will finally kill Tris. {Ok, so I seem really bitter and like I really hate Tris. This is not the case. I simply think that with such a popular book series, the movie should follow the plot line closely.}

I could not get into the books. And not for a lack of trying. However, I liked the movies. Since I didn’t read the books, I don’t know what differences occurred between the book to movie adaptions.

The main complaint is that the movie didn’t explain the takeover well enough; the movie was rushed and there was minimal description. The movie did not play to the book’s strenghts. After Twilight, producers were hoping for another multi-million dollar hit movie series. Sadly, that was not the case.

The books are decent but the movie kinda tanked.

The movie was eh and the book was ok-eh. I bought the book and got into it, but I never finished it. I have not tried reading it again since, so maybe my opinion will have changed.

I think I watched this movie as a rental, long after it appeared in theatres. I am sad to say that after I say the movie, I was no longer interested in reading the books. {Don’t kill me. I was hesitant about the book even before I saw the movie.}

For any book reader, this movie was the bane of our existence. It was so far off from the book.
