Girl Out of Water by Laura Silverman is almost here!

girloutofwater.jpgAnise Sawyer plans to spend every minute of summer with her friends: surfing, chowing down on fish tacos drizzled with wasabi balsamic vinegar, and throwing bonfires that blaze until dawn. But when a serious car wreck leaves her aunt, a single mother of three, with two broken legs, it forces Anise to say goodbye for the first time to Santa Cruz, the waves, her friends, and even a kindling romance, and fly with her dad to Nebraska for the entire summer. Living in Nebraska isn’t easy. Anise spends her days caring for her three younger cousins in the childhood home of her runaway mom, a wild figure who’s been flickering in and out of her life since birth, appearing for weeks at a time and then disappearing again for months, or even years, without a word.

Complicating matters is Lincoln, a one-armed, charismatic skater who pushes Anise to trade her surfboard for a skateboard. As Anise draws closer to Lincoln and takes on the full burden and joy of her cousins, she loses touch with her friends back home – leading her to one terrifying question: will she turn out just like her mom and spend her life leaving behind the ones she loves.

Emoji Book Tag

I was in the mood for a book tag and found the Emoji Book Tag from Blame It On Chocolate. Here are the original creators of the Emoji Book Tag: Liz from lizlovesliteratureJenny from JellafySanaa from InkBonesBooksDylan from dylanbooksMax from WellDoneBooksVilde from vforvildeScott from Scott Place. You choose 5 emojis: ones you like, ones you use most often, ones you used most frequently.

Here we go.

⚓️ Anchor

Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller

dotpk

Pirates, ships, and sirens, oh my! This book is set on the seas, with a kick-ass female protagonist.

🐺 Wolf Face

Prince of Wolves by Quinn Loftis

princeofwolves.jpg

I have read this series too many times to count. The main fantasy creatures are wolves, but Fey, Warlocks, Witches, and more join the party eventually. What I love the most is the intense, unbreakable friendship between Jaque, Jen, and Sally. If you are looking for female friendship and support in a YA book, then look no further.

🚀 Rocket

The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid (review)

the-diabolic

This book is set in the future where people live in space. Technology has obviously advanced, and readers follow the POV of a half-human, half-robot (a diabolic).

👽 Extraterrestrial Alien

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

obsidian.jpg

The main character, Katy, meets her new neighbors when she moves to West Virginia: Daemon and Dee. They are both very good looking and out of this world – literally. They aren’t you classic aliens, but are made of light and have the powers to prove it.

🎶 Multiple Musical Notes

Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones (review)

wintersong

This book has a huge emphasis on music and identity. This book was influenced by The Labyrinth, David Bowie, “The Magic Flute”, and Phantom of the Opera.

Since I wasn’t technically tagged to do this, I’m not going to tag anyone. This is a free-for-all; if you want to do the Emoji Book Tag, then consider yourself tagged. Have fun!

What books would you have chosen for anchor, wolf face, rocket, extraterrestrial alien, and multiple musical notes emojis?

Loot Crate Dream Crate

Loot Crate is a monthly subscription box service that offers 4-6 gaming, geek, and special items for various boxes. I learned about a Loot Crate project where fans can make a blog post about their Dream Crate. Anyone is welcome to participate. There are no restrictions or limitations. The crate can be as simple or imaginative as you want.

This box is of my own invention with no monetary gain, all opinions are my own.

I’m not going to be super creative. While making this blog post, I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean, my favorite movie series (along with Harry Potter), and thus my dream crate was born. Plus, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales release next month (May 26, 2017) in theaters!

Loot Crate: Pirate of the Caribbean Dream Crate

Pop! Vinyl: Pirates of the Caribbean, Captain Jack Sparrow

What is a Loot Crate without a Pop! Figure? CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow is a must when making a Dream Crate.

Pirates Of The Caribbean Brass Coin Keychain

I love this keychain. The detail is amazing and I would definitely showcase the coin that started the whole Pirates of the Caribbean adventure. I wouldn’t be able to wear the necklace because nickel/iron irritate my skin, so I would play it safe with another form of the trinket.

pirates3.pngblack pearl flag.jpgPirates of the Caribbean Flag

My walls are looking a little bare lately. My father also has this flag in his workshop. I’m jealous and want a decorative flag to commemorate my love of the movie series.

Pirates of the Caribbean Liar’s Dice OR Yahtzee Game

When looking for Pirates of the Caribbean items, I discovered this awesome edition of Yahtzee. I would also be down to play Liar’s Dice, the actual game from the movies, as long as I don’t have to pledge years of servitude to Davy Jones.

Pirates of the Caribbean T-Shirt

I already have way to many shirts. However, I added a Pirates of the Caribbean T-Shirt to my dream crate, anyway. I currently have Harry Potter, Impractical Jokers, and Supernatural shirts. Why not add to the collection of movie and TV show clothing?

So, there is my basic Dream Crate from Loot Crate. What do you think? Would you buy this crate? Did I miss something important for a Pirates of the Caribbean theme? What would you put in your own Loot Crate Dream Crate? Let me know in the comments!

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Break the Spine where bloggers can feature anticipated upcoming book releases.

Can the release date for Avenged by Amy Tintera be moved to, say, tomorrow?

avengedTintera.jpgEmelina Flores has come home to Ruina. After rescuing her sister Olivia from imprisonment in rival kingdom Lera, Em and Olivia together vow to rebuild Ruina to its former glory.

But their fight has only begun. Olivia is determined to destroy everyone who acts against Ruina, but Em isn’t as sure. Ever since Em posed as Prince Casimir’s betrothed in Lera, she’s started to see another side to this war. And now that Cas has taken the throne, Em believes a truce is within reach. But Olivia suspects that Em’s romantic feelings for Cas are just coloring her judgement.

Em is determined to bring peace to her home. But when winning the war could mean betraying her family, Em faces an impossible choice between loyalty and love. Em must stay one step ahead of her enemies—and her blood—before she’s the next victim in this battle for sovereignty.

The first book was not my absolute favorite, but it did leave me with a cliffhanger that left me wanting for more. The plot of Ruined was somewhat predictable and it featured too many cliché YA tropes. Click here for my review of Ruined by Amy Tintera. Despite the faults, I am still willing to pick up this series again. If only May 2 could come a little faster.
